For me, this photo just screams Thailand.  I’m not sure why, maybe it’s just the floor fan and the clothes line, and the colors.  Photo was taken by my friend Brandon Eastwood, check out his complete “Bangkok Underwater” collection here.
“It sounds like some garbage from the mind of an intern at a the tourist office. “Thailand, the Land of a Thousand Smiles.” After a day taking photos in Bangkok’s flooded streets the slogan seemed more a genuine observation. People laughed, teased, flashed peace signs and of course smiled while they managed the floods. Huge military vehicles played taxi along inundated streets. Some of the higher buildings were islands for volunteers to pack lunches for those in need. At one location I was told they were turning out 7000 meals per day. All vegetarian so they wouldn’t spoil quickly. It’s been a few weeks since the floods started and finally it seems the water is rolling back. There is less and less news about the escaped crocodiles and snakes that people feared were roaming the waters. Tourist dollars are apparently down though the damage was minimal in most of the backpacker traps around the city.”
